The question is, why is the world obsessed with K-Pop Demon Hunters?

Or, why our Top 10 Songs are limited to a movie and an artist.

 

Before I start writing about the hit movie K-Pop Demon Hunters, I want to state something for the record. I do not know why pop artist Sabrina Carpenter is the singer for the majority of our Top 10 Songs. The only thing I can answer is how a musical movie has taken the world by storm. This article is solely about the movie. Without further ado, let’s start, shall we?

On June 20th of 2025, a movie titled K-Pop Demon Hunters was shown to the world, through streaming service Netflix. It’s about a K-pop girl group called HUNTR/X, who has the power to sing and use their fans’ happiness to fix a worldly veil called the Honmoon. The Honmoon protects the Earth from demons, led by Gwi-Ma. Everything is successful until a new boy band emerges, known as the Saja Boys. I won’t say any more, you’ll have to watch the movie to find out what happens.

One reason, according to Distractify, is the expansive fandom of K-pop. They know the Internet and how to spread the word, either in real life or on their favourite social media platforms. The movie also caters to the multiple users of TikTok, where intense but cool choreography and catchy music rules supreme. An extra bonus, those fighting scenes interwoven with music better be catering to some fans of high stakes action movies.

Another reason is the production. They brought in people like Teddy Park, who worked with Blackpink, BTS, and TWICE. Canadian co-director Maggie Kang grew up surrounded by K-pop songs and idols. Not only that, but she and her animation team did every pose and face themselves for the sake of the animation, which truly came out flawless. She wanted to showcase female leads not being the picture perfect people you so often find on screen. You’ll often see Zoey, Rumi, and Mira barfing and burping, acting like completely normal humans.

And with that, here are some reasons why K-Pop Demon Hunters is so popular. Should you watch it? If you’re a fan of awesome choreography, flashy outfits with lots of glitter and shine (that’s me!), or epic music that you can sing in the shower, go for it! And if none of those things cater to you, so what? K-Pop Demon Hunters is a must watch, no matter your age or interests.
