Death is like a shadow
Casting its pain upon the world
Sometimes it’s hard to notice
But when you do, it hurts
It hurts because we aren’t ready
To say goodbye to those we’ve known
It hurts because we make it hurt
Even though we don’t have to mourn
The absence feels heavy
A weight that will never lift
Through the stormy sands of life
It’s the lightning that comes with
Though some say it’s a vile thing that should never have been
Some say it’s a crucial thing, to rid the world of the unfit
However, it’s in fact both and neither
It’s an amazing evil, that we must endure
But without the dark night of death
We’d have no morning of life
Forgetting the true meaning
Of why we were blessed to exist
